Why and How To Detox and Save Your Life.

Detox is the body’s process of eliminating and neutralizing toxins that come from the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and the contents of the bowel.  Detoxification should be one of our body’s basic routine functions but in today’s world our body’s systems and organs that were once capable of cleaning out unwanted substances are now often completely overloaded due to an increased amount of pollutants in our environment.

The hormones used to fatten the animals we eat end up in the body causing confusion on the endocrine system, and the pesticides which end up in your fat tissues, create chaos on your biochemistry.  When we drink too much alcohol, eat too much animal protein and sugar or otherwise abuse our body, we often gain weight, feel tired, and look bad.

What is Detox?

Toxins are basically any substance that creates damaging effects in the body. Many unwanted toxic substances stay in our tissues, contributing to many symptoms and diseases.  The body already has multiple systems in place including the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, which do the job of eliminating toxins from the body in a short time after consumption when everything is working correctly.

The body contains a careful balance of beneficial bacteria strains that live in your gastrointestinal tract and help support your digestive and immune systems.  We go along, eating, drinking, and functioning without paying attention to the fact that all sickness and diseases are a symptom of being toxic. Stress can cause toxicity to the body because it triggers the body to release hormones into the system causing many people to experience mild symptoms.

Recent research proves that toxins cause inflammation in the body which makes the symptoms worse. Many people have mild to moderate flu-like symptoms, nausea, cravings, anxiety, vomiting, disturbed sleep, and crankiness,  Severe symptoms could involve tremors, sweating, elevated blood pressure and pulse, hypersensitivity to sound and light, visual hallucinations, and fever. The most severe toxic symptoms can be life threatening because they often involve seizures and delirium tremens, episodes of severe delirium and trembling.  Delirium includes hallucinations, delusions, and other perceptual distortions. Delirium tremens and seizures along with fever, and an increase in blood pressure and pulse, represent the most potentially life threatening toxic symptoms.

How to detox ?

Preparing your body and mind for a cleanse is important once you make the decision to do it.  There are two primary organs responsible for detoxifying the body, and those are the liver and the kidneys. The liver is the busiest organ in our body with functions that includes blood sugar regulation, fatty acid absorption, fat burning, weight balance, cholesterol regulation and detoxification.  Without a properly functioning liver, the body has a difficult time with detoxification and metabolic processes.  Detoxifying the body regularly is essential to maintaining good health and to avoid disease.  Drinking water, half your body weight in ounces, can be a big step in helping your body cleanse.  By supplying the body with plant-based compounds that have antioxidant properties, the liver, which is the only organ that can regenerate itself after exposure to these damaging oxidation reactions, can be supported. 

So it is never too late to start taking care of it.  A plant-based diet supports the body and helps to improve the functions of the kidneys and liver.  Also, while cleansing or detoxing, the body may increase its bowel movement and this may result in diarrhea, which results in a cleaner body that is free of most of the toxins that have been accumulating over years of abuse or neglect.
